Tips for Using the Model

  • Be specific!

    • If you don’t specify what you want, it probably won’t appear. This goes for inputs, select options, etc.
  • Use specific keywords to get the desired output:

    • The words plot, chart, and graph will make sure you don’t get a number output calculator.

    • The words equation and calculate without one of the above words will make sure you get a number output calculator.

  • Clarify ambiguous queries:

    • There are some queries which are 50/50 about whether an internet data search or a graphing calculator is called, e.g., ‘how much will my Kia be worth each year in the future?’. Specifying ‘based on the equation x’ or ‘based on internet data y’ will help ensure the desired results are achieved.
  • Use phrases to get dropdowns and inputs:

    • Words like ‘let me select’ or ‘let me choose’ will help you get a dropdown with your requested options.

    • Words like ‘let me input x’ or ‘include inputs for y’ will help you get numerical inputs.

  • Specify rows or columns directly if needed:

    • If you are having trouble with the model leaving out rows or columns, specify them directly in the prompt. For example:

    • ‘Let me select the continent (Africa/N. America/S. America/Europe/Asia/Australia/Antarctica) to display’ will yield better results than just ‘let me select the continent to display’.

    • Ideally, these types of mistakes are prevented, and we’re working on it, but knowing these tips might alleviate some frustration in the meantime.

  • Themes and chart types are applied after generating:

    • The model does not know how to apply them (yet). So, ‘build me a purple BMI calculator’ will just get you a default-colored BMI calculator, possibly with a strange title or description.
  • Please double-check that the outputs are accurate before distributing the charts anywhere!
